Intimate spaces of turbulent bodies
"Turbulences, overlapping cyclones and anticyclones, like on the weather map. Wisps of hay tied in knots. An assembly of relations. Clouds of angels passing. Once again, the flames’ dance. The living body dances like that, and all life. Weakness and fragility mark the spot of their most precious secret.” - Michel Serres
Vala Tanz will offer a class where we are going to explore the collective improvisation, yet leaving space for the idiosyncrasy. The body will have a chance to ascend from dark_ness, sad_ness, joyful_ness, queer_ness, ligth_ness and other “ness_es” (ness in hebrew means miracle). Vala will be sharing her strategies of magic, dance and body awareness - using various methods of working with the complex understanding of moving body in a intimate soundscape. Vala will introduce some basics of somatic and shamanic work, as well as the magic of body awareness and give a try to awake our "turbulent" body - state of intuition, curiosity, which enables to take risks, fail and fall, love and rage, scream and contemplate. The class/lab is a process that entails learning to listen to one's desires, exploring biographical boundaries and to deconstruct stereotypes. Sensual liberation is, therefore, a call for an alternative collective consciousness.
Vala is poetic choreographer, queer witch, priestess of love, disobedient shape-shifter, devotional singer, visual mythology artist, sexual healer and peace activist. In 2011 she received a grant to study with Anna Halprin at the Mountain Studio in California, which evolved into a long term research on her choreographic heritage. She also performed a piece “Notes on love…” at her legendary place Mountain Studio, where Lamont Young, Meredith Monk, Yvonne Rainer, Simone Forti, and Trisha Brown, John Cage and Terry Riley were presenting their works.
