Magic, Sex, Politics
We call you for a gathering and invite you for a lecture performance in Basel at Ausstellungsraum Klingental
Vala will talk about the healing powers of arts in the context of her personal experience that became a historical turn in Polish politics, LGTBQT+ his_tory|her_story.
Vala will talk about the trauma of gentrification, witchcraft as political strategy and art expression. She describes it as choreography of soft resistance | visual mythology art. Vala questions the private and public, and offers her own personal history and feelings, thoughts and corporality to the public - named as friends and companions.
During her stay at Platform blind_spot we had few conversations that inspired us to share its content with the public. You are very welcome to join our conversation, ask questions and share your thoughts.
In the times of artists/activists facing the cruel process of gentrification and art washing we will try to talk about various ways of resistance as well as just give space to express our experiences.
"It all derives from the experience of "loss". It does not come from the fashion, neither trend or as some say of trying to be controversial or crazy. My witchcraft become the strategy of politics and art making. When losing the home, career as well as the community I turned back to the Earth, Nature and the Simplicity that it offers. I believe that witches were always working on subversing the power, confusing the reality, questioning the authority, yet earthquaking the rational mind and the order that patriarchy is trying to establish. The order that is hierarchy, class, position, race, gender or wealth."
Vala was co-director and co-founder of independent art institution Krakow Art House - the home for creative arts in the a century old villa in the city of Krakow. Due to the new investor's decision Vala and her community was forced to move out. This was a procedure done against the law and Vala became homeless by the end of May, 2018. Vala is also the mother and curator of Lamella - the house of queer arts. that supports LGTBQI+ community, that had its headquarters in Krakow Art House.
Vala is poetic choreographer, queer witch, priestess of love, disobidient shape-shifter, devotional singer, visual mythology artist, sexual healer and peace activist.
