BRUNO STEINER - A GUEST FOR EVERY SOUL
How does that work: curating as an artist? What are the inspirations and conflicts of those diffe- rent impulses within an artist‘s life - to work in the studio and pursue one‘s own projects in many media, but also to take an interest and cooperate with other artists? The exhibition titled „A Guest for every Soul“ addresses these questions by example of the art work by Bruno Steiner.
Bruno Steiner‘s oeuvre combines paintings, animation movies, and educational projects. He
is known as friend, cook, inventor of art events like the „Sausage Workshop“ or „One hundred dogs“, when dogs were invited to an exhibition of sculptures during the night of the open muse- ums. Bruno is also a board member of Ausstellungsraum Klingental. What sources feed this sort of voluntary engagement in the „non profit“ offspace? How can you capture an oeuvre that dares to explore such various media and forms of debate? The exhibition focuses on Bruno Steiner‘s art without denying any of its many aspects.
Between exhibition, screening festival and dinner we listen to invited guests discussing the mul- ti-faceted artist‘s practice, thus developing an idea of art juggling between the desire for the uni- versal experiment and the burden of playing in many fields – at the risk of not being a top expert in any.

Ist es sinnvoll als Autodidakt im Kunstmarkt bestehen zu wollen? Was kann eine Ausbildungsinstitution für das Künstlerleben vermitteln? Gibt es einen idealen Zeitpunkt für die Emanzipation von der Schule? Wie viel Wert hat ein ECTS Credit-Point? Was ist das Grösste bei der Arbeit im eigenen Produktionsstudio? Ist es hilfreich, intensive Produktionen im Teamwork/ zu Zweit durchzuführen? Heisst doppelte Energie auch halbe Verantwortung? Wer überbrückt ein allfälliges Finanzloch? Ist kommerzielle Querfinanzierung unumgänglich? Gibt es alternative Währungssysteme? Wäre es für die Freie Produktion manchmal schön, einer Institution anzugehören? Oder gibt es diese Durchlässigkeiten sowieso?

Was ist Erfolg? Ist Erfolg messbar? Ist Erfolg planbar? Ist Erfolg ein Genuss oder eine Plage? Ist künstlerische Anerkennung wichtig, den eigenen authentischen Weg zu gehen? Ist kommerzieller Erfolg ein erstrebenswertes Ziel oder nur unangenehmer Ballast? Braucht es nach einem erfolgreichen Werk grossen Mut etwas Neues zu beginnen? Ist der Erfolg auch ein Gefängnis? Was soll man bei Geldmangel tun? Gibt es ausserhalb von "WeMakeIt" noch andere innovative Finanzierungsmodelle?
