BLACKOUTBASEL 2015
BLACKOUTBASEL is a 5 month-long residency project helmed by SHAZEB ARIF S (curator and director of the blackout festival). The project is facilitated by PRO HELVETIA (swiss arts council www.prohelvetia.ch)) and headquartered at ausstellungsraum klingental while the curator lives and works in his studio at ATELIER MONDIAL, Basel (www.ateliermondial.com).
The project will research sub-culture and experimental artistic practices in Switzerland. Besides building a new experimental community with contributions from other artists and projects in europe and from all possible quarters around the world with a vision to build an international festival in Basel. The intended result is a 3-day-night festival of experimental exhibitions and experiences from 11th to 13th of September 2015.
With contributions by Südkulturfonds for travelling costs of some of the participating artists. BLACKOUTBASEL gets also support by Christoph Merian Foundation.
The exhibition is supported by Jaqueline Spengler Foundation.

The first appearance of #BlackoutBasel outside Switzerland with a Live Cinema performance by India's first visual band, Godgamut at the premiere meeting point for live video artists in the world. In the performance, Godgamut produced a live film titled, Melt, to the background score of Boneringing by Jamblu (India).

An easy-going gathering / get together to share everything that is indulgent from sunny cocktails, your own youtube playlists, original board games and indie music videos from India. Alongside, to relieve you from all the indulgence, we will also have therapy with experimental relaxation techniques, binaural beats (sound therapy) and group massages!

Imaginations of a new experimental community that will build an urban experiential festival in September 2015. At the #BlackoutBasel Open Studio, you can access the vision, plans and possibilities of the festival and add to it as an artist, curator or even an appreciator. Also featuring, what happens when a computer uses humans as its instruments (a performative installation), a piece from the globally traveling exhibition in briefcases - the show must goes on, and so on!
